7 Natural Remedies for Eczema – Home Treatment

Eczema is a medical condition that affects skin. It is common in babies and young children. However, medics say that eczema may also affect adults.

It occurs in certain areas of skin and is characterized by:

  • Blistering
  • Flaking
  • Inflammation (swelling, irritation and warmth)
  • Scaling
  • Small red bumps
  • Darkening of the skin area (hyperpigmentation)
  • Dryness
  • Thickening of affected skin as a result of frequent scratching

Eczema is a commonly accompanied with itchiness. Sometimes this is so intense that it is impossible to control the urge to scratch the affected area. Constant cratching often results in soreness and bleeding. These open wounds usually become infected and inflamed. Here are some natural remedies that will greatly help you treat eczema and ease the symptoms:

1. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is largely used in service of health and beauty. You can use it to improve the condition of your skin, teeth, hair and teeth. Experts have found that it also works great in the treatment of eczema, due to its antimicrobial, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Gently rub some coconut oil on the affected area and massage. Repeat this treatment 3-4 times a day to moisturize your skin.

2. Aloe vera

It is one of the best remedies for eczema. Apply some aloe vera gel on the skin area affected by eczema and leave it on for a few hours to absorb completely.

3. Green tea

Drink tea regularly if you are dealing with eczema. It is loaded with powerful antioxidants that strengthen immunity enabling the body to fight against inflammation. Green tea will also give you many other benefits.

4. Magnesium baths

If you have eczema, you are probably magnesium deficient. When the body lacks magnesium it produces histamines. Histamines causes itchy skin and red blotches, caused by swollen blood vessels that leak fluid into skin and tissues. Magnesium baths can really help people with eczema improve their skin condition.

Try this magnesium bath recipe:

  • 1-2 cup Epsom salt of magnesium flakes
  • 1/2 cup Himalayan or sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp natural vanilla extract
  • 10-15 drops essential oil (preferably lavender or mint)

5. Witch hazel

Apply witch hazel onto the affected area regularly to reduce itchiness and inflammation. Experts suggest using the liquid from the herb as it provide an instant effect. Soak a cotton ball in witch hazel extract and dab it onto the affected skin.

6. Manuka honey

Scientists have revealed that manuka honey is effective in reducing red and scaly spots common for eczema thanks to its antiseptic properties.

Melt 2 tablespoons of beeswax in a small saucepan. Stir in 2 tablespoons of manuka honey, 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Transfer the mixture in a sterile jar, put the lid on and keep it in the fridge. Apply the paste-like mixture directly onto the affected skin area.

7. Almond leaves

Crush a few almond leaves. Pour in some water and stir well into a thick paste. Apply the remedy on your skin to reduce the symptoms.
