7 Natural Remedies to Remove Ingrown Hairs and Soothe The Pain

Ingrown hairs are not a serious issue, but if you’ve ever had one, you know it’s an irritating experience.

Also known as razor bumps, they occur when your hair curls into the skin instead of rising out of it. They are red and inflamed little bumps that rise from your skin, similar in sight to a pimple.

You can speed up the process of removing an ingrown hair with these home remedies. Once the hair is visible out of the skin, you can use a sterile pair of tweezers to remove the hair for good.

1. Sugar

This sweet remedy makes for a great skin scrub, gently exfoliating your skin and helping to remove ingrown hair. It also makes your skin super smooth!

Just mix 1 cup of white sugar with ½ cup extra-virgin olive oil and add 10 drops of essential oil. Apply to the ingrown hair, rub in circular motions, and rinse with warm water. Your ingrown hair will be gone in 1-2 weeks!

2. Tea Tree Oil

This great antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic oil will heal your skin and prevent infection.

Add 5 drops of tea tree oil to distilled water and apply to the affected area. Leave it to work its magic for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. You can also substitute water for olive oil for a gentle massage.

3. Salt

We all have this sitting in the kitchen, but I bet you never knew it could increase circulation and reduce swelling.

Take 1 and a half teaspoons of table salt and dissolve in warm water. Rub the mixture over your skin with a cotton ball, leaving it on for a few minutes. Rinse with water.

If your skin becomes irritated, stop using this remedy and try a different one from the list.

4. Baking Soda

This is a soothing remedy as baking soda has anti-inflammatory properties and will relieve your itching and reduce redness quickly.

Simply mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda in water and leave it on the affect area for 5 minutes. Repeat a few times a day until the ingrown hair can be removed.

5. Black tea bags

Tea bags are good for numerous things, including getting rid of ingrown hairs.

Wet the tea bag with warm water and rub over the affected area for 3 minutes.

6. Aspirin

This little pill helps reduce inflammation and redness caused by an ingrown hair. It’s also a great scrub to remove dead skin and loosen the hair.

Soak 2 tablets in warm water until you have a paste-like consistency. Add 1 teaspoon of honey to the mixture and apply to your ingrown hair. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.

7. Cucumber

Cucumbers contain vitamin C which helps pain and itchiness caused by ingrown hairs. It’s hydrating qualities will deal with the red swelling as well.

Slice up some cucumber and gently rub over the affected area. Do this several times a day and your ingrown hair will be gone in no time!
