Did you know that sesame seeds were used in the food in 1500 BC by ancient Egyptians? It is thought that the small sesame seeds with a rich taste and aroma are the oldest spice that was known to the people. Sesame is often used in Asian cuisine and gives to the dishes “nutty” and delicate flavor. The most famous dishes which are made from sesame is Tahan – tahini paste and wonderful halva.
Sesame is rich in fiber, vitamins and essential minerals such as copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium, selenium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, molybdenum, and vitamin B1. Especially important is that sesame in its composition is containing two ingredients: sesamin and sesamolin that belong to the group of special fibers known as lignans. These two compounds have the effect of reducing blood cholesterol, prevent high blood pressure and the sesamin protects the liver from damage caused by free radicals.
Thanks to the ingredients they contain, sesame seeds slow down the aging process, and the oil that is highly valued worldwide reduces bad cholesterol, helps regulate blood pressure and reduces the risk of some types of cancer. Sesame oil in traditional medicine is used for treatment of diseases which are associated with blood clotting.
