Nose bleeds can be quite tricky, especially if you are at work, in the car or in a meeting.
If you want to prevent this unpleasant occurrence or stop the bleeding quickly, try these tricks. They actually work.
Sit straight and tilt your head slightly forward (to avoid getting blood in your throat).
Gently blow your nose to remove any blood clots.
Press the soft part of your nose, just below the cartilage and hold it for about 10 minutes.
Create a solid roll of gauze or cotton cloths.
Place the compressor in the mouth, between the gums and upper lip, just below the root of the nose and hold it for about 10 minutes.
If you’re uncomfortable with a foreign object in your mouth, take a coin or button and press it with your finger over the upper lip (between the lips and nose) and hold it for about 10 minutes.
Put ice cubes or a chilled lining on the side of the bleeding nostril.
Keep it on for some time, take a break and repeat the process.
The cold lining constricts the blood vessels, thus stopping the bleeding.
Nasal sprays have a similar effect.
Drink plenty of fluids. Water hydrates the body, and the mucosa as well.
Don’t go overboard with air conditioning because it dries out the mucous membranes of the nose.
Avoid acetaminophen because they dilute the blood and can increase nose bleeds.
Increase vitamin C intake. It strengthens the capillaries and protects the mucous membranes.
Moisturize the mucous membranes by inhalation in the morning and before bedtime. Inhale a little salt water and rinse your nose. The mucous membranes must be salty and moist.
