11 Homemade Bubble Bath Recipes

There’s really nothing better than unwinding with a glass of wine, a good book, and a warm bubble bath after a long day—especially when it involves making one of these homemade bubble bath recipes on the cheap. Read on and relax.

Lush-Inspired Bath Bombs

We’ve always had a major soft spot for Lush products, but our wallets can’t always support that addiction. Our solution? These DIY bath bombs from Everything Etsy. They are so close to the real thing, and it costs next to nothing to make them. You’ll need the following ingredients: baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, almond oil, essential oils (try peppermint, lemon or lavender), food coloring, rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, and mini metal tart tins or any other mold. We love these bath bombs because they’re cheap to make, look really cute in a big jar, and don’t take much time.

Lavender Eucalyptus Bubble Bath

If you plan on making your own bath products from here on out (we definitely do), keep castile oil and glycerin on hand. Glycerin is really just any pure soap, normally found in a transparent bar. Castile oil is where the bubbles come from. We love this recipe from Apartment Therapy. You’ll need the following ingredients: water, castile soap, glycerin or coconut oil, lavender and eucalyptus essential oil, and a storage container (preferably non glass). Eucalyptus is known for its cooling and refreshing powers, and lavender is great for soothing and calming—what better combination for an amazing bath?

Vanilla Bubble Bath

This recipe for Vanilla Bubble Bath comes from She Knows—and it only takes three ingredients! Stir together liquid body soap or castile soap, pure vegetable glycerin, and vanilla extract and pour into your running bath. Vanilla is a classic option, but don’t be afraid to add a little cinnamon or nutmeg for more scent dimension. Pro tip: If you don’t want to purchase special containers for your DIY bubble bath, rinse out your shampoo and conditioner bottles and those jars that exfoliating scrubs come in and use those instead.

Lavender Bubble Bath

To make this amazing bubble bath from Doterra Everyday, combine unscented castile soap, vegetable glycerin, water, and your favorite essential oil and store in a cute jar or bottle. Use 1/4 to 1/2 cup in your bath. Keeping vegetable glycerin, castile soap, and a few essential oil options on hand will keep you prepared for bathtime all the time.

Honey Vanilla Bubble Bath

This super-sweet mixture from Hello Natural uses a different combination of ingredients than most of the others featured here, but no worries—you probably have most of them in your kitchen! Combine light almond oil, honey, mild liquid hand or body soap, egg white, and vanilla extract. Pour into your warm running bath, and make sure to keep the excess in your refrigerator—that egg white will go bad otherwise.

Lavender and Chamomile Bath Melts

Go beyond lavender! Try combining lemon and orange with grated lemon zest or shredded rose petals and geranium essential oil in this recipe from Beccy on Beauty. You’ll also need organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, and chamomile tea. Find silicone molds in hearts, flowers, or virtually any other shape at your favorite craft store. If you don’t want your bath to be covered in lavender flowers and chamomile you can always place your bath melt in a muslin cloth bag.

Oatmeal Bath Sachets

Your mother probably used sachets to keep closets and drawers smelling fresh. But did you realize that sachets are the perfect way to hold soothing bubble bath ingredients without letting them get all over your tub? We love this idea from Living Well Spending Less—super inexpensive and super easy. Combine old fashioned oats, bar soap shavings, and your favorite essential oil, pour into tiny cloth bags and sew the bags shut.

Honey Bubble Bath

We love when recipes take less than five ingredients, and this easy recipe from Live Laugh Rowe only requires four! Just mix baby oil, honey, unscented hand soap or shampoo, and vanilla extract, and put in squeeze bottles.

Vanilla Bubble Bath Soak

Baby body wash isn’t just for babies—using it as a grownup will just make your skin that much softer to the touch. No harm in that! For this vanilla bubble bath soak from Nellie Bellie, you’ll need light olive oil, natural honey, baby wash, and vanilla extract. We love the homemade labels, too.

Whole Stem Lavender Bubble Bath

There’s an unexpected ingredient in this lavender bubble bath from Julie Blanner—dish soap. You’ll get a lot of bubbles when you use it, so don’t let that throw you off. Use lavender essential oil and whole stems of lavender for the ultimate presentation—the whole stems won’t separate in the tub.

Lush-Inspired Bubble Bar Slices

How fun are these Lush-inspired bubble bar slices? You’ll get tons of bubbles in all sorts of colors by using different colors of food coloring. And don’t be alarmed by using sodium laurel sulfoacetate—it’s completely safe for most skin types, including sensitive skin. All it does is remove oils and bacteria without irritating the skin.
