ADHD – Symptoms and Causes

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a mental health condition which results with difficulties in paying attention and also you see increased hyperactivity and impulsive behavior. People which are affected with this disease can have many problems like poor work, low self-esteem, poor school performance and unstable relationship. In the most cases it starts in the childhood. But sometimes is happening that this disease cannot be diagnosed if this disease was limited to childhood. But symptoms from it are reflecting in adult life. If you are not treating this disease, it will make you lot of problems in your everyday life. Treatment for adult-ADHD is the same like the treatment for childhood-ADHD. This treatment includes stimulant drugs, psychotherapy and any kind of mental treatment that is occurring with adult-ADHD.

Symptoms of ADHD in children:

  • Makes careless mistakes
  • Appears not to listen when spoken to
  • Gets bored with a task before it’s completed
  • Frequently losses or misplaces homework, books, toys or other items
  • Is always “on the go”, as if driven by a motor
  • May has quick temper or a “short fuse”
  • Is easily distracted
  • Doesn’t pay attention to details
  • Has trouble staying focused
  • Has difficulty remembering things and following instructions
  • Constantly fidgets and squirms
  • Has difficulty playing quietly or relaxing
  • Often runs or climbs inappropriately
  • Has trouble staying organized, planning ahead and finishing projects
  • Talks excessively
  • Moves around constantly
  • Often is leaving his or her seat in situations where sitting is expected from everyone

Adult ADHD symptoms:

  • Low frustration tolerance
  • Hot temper
  • Unstable relationship
  • Impulsivity
  • Restlessness
  • Trouble focusing or concentrating
  • Disorganization
  • Trouble coping with stress
  • Difficulty completing tasks
  • Frequent mood swings

Different types of ADHD:

There are three different types:

  • It combined (which involves all of the symptoms listed above)
  • It mainly inattentive (which involves concentration and attention)
  • It mainly hyperactive-impulsive (which is resulting with hyperactivity without inattentiveness)

When to see a doctor? It impulsive behavior, hyperactivity and inattention constantly is disrupting in your life, you should visit your doctor and consult with him/her. You know that ADHD has similar symptoms like other mental conditions. You might not have ADHD, but you have some other mental disease. That’s why you must visit your doctor and to take the right medical treatment.

Getting diagnosed: Your doctor will check your behavior if is not typical for your age. This means that this not natural behaving is happening with children which are behaving on this or that way, but is not normal for you if you are an adult. Also your doctor will check if you are having negative effects on the people which are around you. Maybe this would be individual at your home, at your work or in social environment. Also your doctor should diagnose at least 6 symptoms that we give you above. At least in two settings you are not behaving well such as school and home.

Causes: The exact cause of it is unknown. There are many studies in which is given an effort to discover what is causing the ADHD. In some cases is shown that family role can be one of the factors which are reason for this disease. Also the problems in the environment and in the central nervous system can be a reason for having ADHD.

What’s normal for ADHD? Almost every man has some similar symptoms to it in some moments of their lives. If your symptoms are occasionally occurring or it happened in some little period in the past, then you should not be worried. Symptoms-of-ADHD are diagnosed when they are happening constantly and they are interrupting in your life. These symptoms can be traced back to early childhood. When people are older it is more difficult to diagnose if they are suffering from it or not, because symptoms-of-ADHD are very similar to other mental disorder symptoms. Many adults which are having ADHD are having at least one more mental disease such as anxiety or depression.
